Are you an experienced veterinary surgeon with a passion for managing hospitalised patients, tackling complex medical cases, and providing top-notch inpatient care? If you also value variety in your workweek, this role could be your perfect fit.
A leading veterinary hospital in Cardiff is seeking a confident and compassionate vet to join their growing team. This position focuses on inpatient and hospital-based care, offering a unique blend of responsibilities that go beyond the traditional GP role. You’ll have the chance to engage in surgery and first-opinion consulting, ensuring no two days are the same.
Imagine spending your days caring for hospitalised patients, managing medical workups, supporting emergency admissions, and developing comprehensive treatment plans. You’ll see cases through from admission to discharge, all while having opportunities to perform surgeries and maintain your consulting skills without the pressure of back-to-back consultations.
What sets this role apart is the hospital’s 24/7 service, which supports around 40 local practices. This means a varied and genuinely interesting caseload. Your daily activities could include managing complex medical inpatients, working up challenging diagnostic cases, supporting emergency admissions, performing soft tissue surgery, collaborating with the ECC team, consulting on first-opinion cases, and mentoring less experienced colleagues.
You’ll never be working alone. The team comprises experienced veterinary colleagues, talented RVNs, ACAs, and dedicated reception and client care teams. The collaborative environment ensures you have the support needed to deliver high-quality patient care and enjoy genuine clinical freedom and autonomy.
The working pattern is flexible, with up to 36 hours per week spread over four days, and includes a 1 in 5 weekend rota and a single 12-hour bank holiday shift per year. Flexible working requests are welcomed.
The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a CT scanner, advanced ultrasonography, dedicated ECC wards, orthopaedic and soft tissue theatres, an exotic animal theatre, endosurgery facilities, a modern dental suite, and an extensive in-house laboratory. There’s also a rehabilitation service offering physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.
Located just outside Cardiff, the hospital offers easy access to the vibrant city life, stunning coastline, and the natural beauty of South Wales, including the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Benefits include a competitive salary of up to £65,000 DOE, 6.6 weeks of holiday, a buy/sell holiday scheme, 5 days CPD with a £1,750 allowance, certificate support, paid RCVS and VDS fees, two additional professional memberships, enhanced maternity and paternity benefits, a healthcare scheme, life assurance, a colleague discount scheme, a paid volunteering day, a Cycle to Work scheme, optional private healthcare.
This hospital is committed to being the veterinary practice of choice for clients, patients, and veterinary professionals. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in hospital medicine, manage interesting cases, and work with a supportive team, this could be the role for you.
