Veterinary Nurse - Independent Practice

Veterinary Nurse - Hertfordshire, South East

Ref: 160Wednesday 10 August 2022

£22,000 to £30,000

We are super excited to be representing this independent practice based in South Hertfordshire.

They have an amazing opportunity for an RVN to join their team.

This is a single site 100% small animal practice and the team consists of 4 vets, 2.5 RVN’s moving to 3.5 once they have recruited this additional member. The full time role is 35 hours a week being standard but they are open to more hours potentially. The nurses work a 4 day week and every other Saturday morning 8:30-12:30. They also have 4 support staff of whom 2 or 3 work at any one time covering reception and ACA roles. There is a clinic manager coordinating everyone as well. No OOH.

The work is split between ops, hospitalised patients and consults. Their nurses have dedicated ACA and reception staff supporting them so they don’t get dragged into those tasks and they get to focus on core nursing. They do a fair range of nurse cons each day which run between 0830-1030 and 1500-1730 and are split between the nursing team working each day. They like their nurses to do lots of consulting and to form relationships with clients and their animals. So the nurses do puppy/kittens post op checks but also a fair amount of assisting the vets during consults with interim checks on renal or thyroid cats and all wound consults. Each nurse has different interests, and they believe that people do their best job when they are interested and passionate about it, so they are keen to try and help all of their team promote the aspects of animal health that particularly interest them.

They are not a big practice, so it means that the case continuity is great and they have flexibility to follow cases through so rather than being kennel nurse for the day etc, the nurses move with the patient so the same nurse (mostly) does the admit op and discharge and if a patient is hospitalised several days in a row we will usually keep the same nurse caring for it. They also try for case continuity in consults. They try to maintain a friendly service with the individual patient and owner as a priority. Their mission is to give enough help to the owner to provide their pet with the best care possible. That does mean they spend a lot of time checking in with clients to keep everyone doing the best for the animals, which is the perfect environment to work in!
