An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join a well-established Out of Hours team at a highly regarded Tier 3 hospital. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing emergency presentations and inpatients overnight, supported by a dedicated nursing team who work the same rota to ensure seamless continuity of care.
The Role:
This position follows a highly attractive rota of one week on, two weeks off, with shifts beginning on Monday evening and concluding the following Monday morning. During working weeks, accommodation is provided in a nearby, semi-detached house reserved exclusively for the out-of-hours veterinary team, allowing for comfortable rest and minimal commuting.
Key aspects of the role include:
-Managing and working up emergency cases
-Providing overnight inpatient care
-Handling out-of-hours calls with clinical confidence
-Working closely with an experienced, dedicated OOH nursing team
This role would suit a vet who enjoys emergency and critical care and values both autonomy and strong team support.
About the Practice:
The hospital holds Tier 3 status and enjoys an excellent local reputation. It operates as a hybrid between first-opinion and referral practice, supported by extensive facilities and a highly experienced veterinary team. The practice currently employs 17 veterinary surgeons, a mix of full-time and part-time colleagues, and this role is available due to an upcoming relocation of a valued team member.
Facilities include:
-High-end ultrasound
-Digital and dental radiography
-Endoscopy, rhinoscopy, bronchoscopy
-Laparoscopy and electrocautery
-Tonometry and slit lamp
Comprehensive in-house laboratory, including advanced endocrinology, coagulation testing, and rapid haematology/cytology interpretation. An exciting hospital extension is scheduled for completion in early spring, which will include the installation of a CT scanner, further enhancing diagnostic capabilities.
Clinical Excellence & Team Culture:
The practice is proud to deliver exceptional first-opinion care through a multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach. The veterinary team includes multiple certificate holders in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia, and Dermatology, with additional colleagues currently working toward certificates in Surgery, Imaging, Internal Medicine, and Endoscopy. Advanced procedures are routinely performed in-house, including BOAS surgery, TPLO/CCWO, patella surgery, fracture repair, cholecystectomy, liver lobe resection, and TECAs. Additional services such as laser therapy, acupuncture, and physiotherapy are also available. Individual development is strongly encouraged, and the team ethos centres on collaboration, support, and continuous improvement.
The Team:
The hospital is home to a friendly, like-minded group of professionals who share a commitment to treating every patient as if they were their own. The wider team includes: 17 Veterinary Surgeons, 23 Nurses and 16 Support Colleagues. The veterinary team is led by an experienced leadership group with advanced qualifications and a strong focus on mentorship and clinical standards.
