Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse - state of the art hospital

A prestigious 24-hour veterinary hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to join their team as Deputy Head Nurse on a fixed 12-month maternity cover contract. This role offers a unique platform to lead by example, enhance your organisational and communication skills, and work alongside a positive and dedicated team.

As a nurse with at least 3-4 years of RVN experience and a medical bias, you will play a pivotal role in the daily coordination of the nursing team, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the hospital. This position is primarily clinical and hands on providing you with ample hands-on experience.

Key responsibilities include:

- Collaborating with medical and surgical teams to ensure seamless daily operations.
- Acting as the point of contact for urgent queries from the non-clinical team and referrals.
- Conducting team meetings and assisting the Head Nurse with return-to-work meetings and absence recording.
- Teaching and supporting the nursing team’s clinical development.
- Supporting clinical induction processes and ensuring adherence to day-to-day protocols.
- Updating the clinical team on new protocols and procedure changes.

This bustling hospital is equipped with advanced facilities, including in-house CT, MRI, hydrotherapy, and physiotherapy. It handles a high caseload of emergency and critical care cases and conducts a wide range of soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries. With dedicated cat, dog, and exotic wards, as well as outpatients and isolation units, the hospital also boasts a specialised dental area with dental x-ray capabilities. The team is passionate about pain control and anaesthesia and has recently acquired zero-pain practice accreditation.

Education and support are at the heart of this hospital's ethos. As a veterinary nursing training practice, it regularly offers EMS placements and fosters a supportive learning environment for all team members. Clinical coaching is a requirement of the role, with full training provided.

The current rota is 40 hours a week across four days, with a set day off each week and 1:4 weekends. You will be supported in your role by the Head Veterinary Nurse and Head of Clinical Services.
