Lead Veterinary Surgeon
A 100% Small Animal practice in Essex, is on the lookout for an experienced and passionate Veterinary Surgeon to take on a leadership role within their dynamic team. This is a unique chance to shape the future of a well-established clinic, working alongside a dedicated Clinical Nursing Manager to ensure the highest standard of pet care.

This clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a large imaging suite, a new X-ray machine, a laparoscopy kit, five consultation rooms, two operating theatres, separate cattery and kennels, and a dedicated goodbye room. The clinic’s prime location offers easy access to Essex and parts of London, with the train station just a short walk away.
Flexible working patterns are welcomed, recognising the importance of a healthy work-life balance. Whether full-time or part-time, the right candidate will find a supportive and adaptable working environment.
Who do they need?
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who enjoys a challenge and is eager to drive a fantastic team forward. Previous senior or lead vet experience is desirable, but not essential, as the Practice Director will provide robust support and guidance on business decisions, helping to develop leadership skills.
Strong routine surgical skills and a good understanding of finances, line management, and business strategy are essential. A GDP advisor or someone willing to train as one would be highly valued. Hours: Full-time, 40 hours over a 4-day week, 1 in 4 Saturday rota, No OOH’s. Part-time and flexible working patterns considered.
Salary: Up to £70,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support clinical delivery within the business.
- Maintain the highest standards of clinical delivery.
- Utilise all associates’ skills to maximise service provision.
- Collaborate with other teams to ensure a cohesive approach.
- Support recruitment, training, and mentoring of the veterinary team.
- Identify and address performance issues with empathy and implement improvement plans.
