We have an incredible opportunity for a veterinary surgeon to join the team at one of Scotland’s largest small animal hospitals.  They not only have an exceptional reputation, but also have accreditations from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the European Association of Establishments of Veterinary Education (EAEVE) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA 

This rotating internship is full time and fixed term for 1 year, during which time accommodation is available on site.  In an average working week, you will work 35hrs and be available to do shift work, with some anti-social hours and cover colleague absences where necessary.  You will work under the direction of the senior clinical team, maintaining a high level of teamwork, while rotating round the various departments gaining significant experience and developing your skills.   

As part of your day to day duties you will have direct responsibility for patient care in the primary care, out of hours service as well as participating and assisting in the referral clinic.  Here you will rotate between anaesthesia, internal medicine, emergency medicine, radiology, neurology, oncology, orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery.  At all times you will be supporting student training and working under the care and supervision of an experienced member of staff who will provide you with direct training whenever required. 

Applicants must be eligible to register with the RCVS, have a good knowledge of the national veterinary regulations and practices and have at least one years’ experience working in practice.  You must be confident in your practical, clinical skills and in always delivering the highest level of care.  You must also be competent in communicating in both written and spoken English and have a high standard of professional ethics. 

You will ideally have some further academic experience, post-graduation, such as publishing technical articles as well as experience in individual student teaching or basic science research.  You should be able to think on the spot, responding to new challenges quickly and efficiently and be confident taking part in case discussions with the team.

Benefits: 

  • Generous salary of £30,000 to £33,000 depending on experience
