Join a Supportive Team in Stunning Cornwall – Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon Opportunity

A proudly RCVS-accredited and long-established practice serving the communities of Devon and Cornwall for over 65 years is looking for a passionate and committed Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join their dedicated team. Whether you're an experienced clinician or a newer graduate looking to grow in a nurturing environment, this is an opportunity to build a fulfilling career in one of the UK's most beautiful regions.

About the Practice

The practice is large and well-integrated, with three small animal branches and two farm animal sites. Most small animal services are delivered from the main site, with additional fully equipped branches in the picturesque towns of Looe and Saltash. The team prides itself on working up both medical and surgical cases to a high standard, and maintains excellent relationships with local referral centres. This is a workplace where your clinical skills will be both valued and continuously developed.

Why This Role is Different

This is a full-time, permanent position with a competitive salary range of £35,700 to £60,000, depending on your level of experience. The role includes a 4.5-day working week with participation in the Saturday rota and occasional inpatient OOH care. The location is flexible across the branches in Saltash and Looe – offering variety and the chance to work in different communities, all while being surrounded by Cornwall’s stunning landscapes.

You'll be engaged in all aspects of small animal veterinary duties, from consultations and surgery to delivering first-class client care. For those confident in sole charge and with an interest in mentoring, there's ample opportunity to guide and support newer vets. Equally, for those still developing their skills, the supportive and encouraging team is here to help you thrive.

A Culture of Learning and Growth

Career development is a priority. The role offers a generous CPD budget of £1,750 per annum, with additional time off for learning. Whether you're interested in certificates or pursuing a special interest, you’ll be supported every step of the way. As part of a larger veterinary group, you’ll also gain access to an extensive Learning Hub, as well as guidance from in-house specialists across a wide range of disciplines.

The Team You’ll Join

You'll be part of a vibrant, collaborative team of 8 vets (soon to be 9), working alongside a fantastic support crew of nurses and receptionists who make each day smoother and more enjoyable. Among the team, there is a certificate holder in diagnostic imaging, vets working toward certificates in medicine, and colleagues with special interests including dentistry and advanced nursing qualifications. Weekly clinical meetings foster an open, team-focused environment where knowledge-sharing and support are a daily standard.

But it’s not just about the work. A strong team spirit and regular social events create a genuine sense of community and camaraderie – making this a place where people stay, grow, and feel truly at home.

Location, Location, Location

This is your chance to live and work in one of the UK’s most scenic regions. East Cornwall offers everything from rugged coastline and sandy beaches to Dartmoor’s wild beauty – all within easy reach of the practice locations. And if you ever crave a bit of city life, Plymouth is just a short drive away. The area offers the perfect balance of professional opportunity and exceptional lifestyle – whether you enjoy surfing, sailing, hiking, horse riding, or simply relaxing by the sea.

What’s in it for You?

Alongside a fulfilling role in a friendly, forward-thinking team, you’ll benefit from a comprehensive package including:

6.6 weeks paid holiday, including bank holidays

£1,750 CPD allowance + CPD leave

RCVS and two additional professional memberships covered

VDS membership

Health Plan – contributions toward dental, optical, physio & more
