An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a progressive and supportive team in a hybrid small animal and exotics position, starting in 2026. Extensive exotics experience is not required – full training and support will be provided.
The Role
This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with no night shifts thanks to a dedicated ECC team. You’ll be supported by a large team of Registered Veterinary Nurses, Receptionists, and Animal Care Assistants, ensuring you can focus on providing exceptional patient care.
Salary: £38,000–£50,000 (depending on experience)
Hours: 5 days (40 hours) per week, Monday to Friday
Night work: None – covered by permanent night vets
The position combines small animal first opinion work with dedicated time spent in the exotics department, caring for a diverse caseload that includes birds, reptiles, and small mammals. While the rota is still being finalised, the role will have an exotics bias.
You’ll work alongside a boarded specialist in exotic medicine and a second specialist who consults regularly, helping to support and expand the department. This role would suit a GP vet with an interest in exotics who is keen to develop further, including pursuing a certificate in exotics
Exotics Department Facilities
* Dedicated exotics waiting area and consulting rooms
* Exotics prep area
* Separate small mammal and avian/reptile wards
* Heated vivaria and isolation ward
* Post-mortem room with biological safety cabinet
* Access to x-ray, ultrasound, CT, endoscopy, and in-house blood analysis

The region boasts beautiful beaches, mountains, and scenic trails – ideal for hiking, biking, and water sports. Whether you prefer city living, coastal towns, or rural tranquillity, South Wales offers an outstanding quality of life.
